The Chief Executive of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Prof. Otchere Addae Mensah, is appealing to philanthropists and corporate bodies to assist in paying the debts of patients detained at the hospital.
The hospital is facing challenges as it has exceeded its capacity, with over 2,500 patients compared to its designated capacity of 1,200 patients.
Due to the overcrowding, the hospital has converted its reception area into wards for patients.
Prof. Mensah explained that the hospital receives over 800 patients daily, and some patients are unable to leave because they haven’t paid their medical bills.
This has led to congestion, with patients staying in the hospital for extended periods, contributing to challenges in patient care and management.
He appealed to corporate bodies to help by paying the medical bills of needy patients, emphasizing the impact on patient care and the overall functioning of the hospital.
