Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama to refrain from using insulting language and instead adopt a more respectful tone in his public statements.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Accra on September 16, Dr. Bawumia criticized Mahama for labeling members of the clergy, civil society organizations (CSOs), and traditional leaders as “hypocrites” due to their perceived silence on national issues.
Dr. Bawumia expressed concern that such rhetoric undermines the dignity of Mahama’s former presidential office and emphasized the importance of respecting these groups, which play a crucial role in fostering unity and development in the country.
He questioned why a former president would resort to such language, highlighting the need for politicians to maintain decency in their discourse.
The NPP flagbearer argued that elections should focus on ideas rather than insults.
“When you lack ideas, you begin to insult people, but when you have ideas, you present them,” Bawumia added.
He defended the achievements of the NPP government, asserting that they have outperformed the previous administration in job creation, infrastructure development, and overall economic performance.
