The Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia, Nana Owiredu Wadie, has officially handed over a fully furnished Kindergarten classroom block to the Ghana Education Service at Asikasu, a farming community in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
This initiative addresses the lack of dedicated KG facilities in Asikasu and its neighboring communities, which previously forced many children of school-going age to either stay home or travel long distances for education.
Upon learning about the plight of these children, Nana Owiredu Wadie initiated the construction of the modern KG block through his nonprofit organization, KABAKA Foundation.
The project was completed within six months and coincided with his birthday when it was officially handed over.
During the commissioning ceremony, Mrs. Helina Amegatse, the New Juaben North Municipal Education Director, described the facility as a unique addition to the region, optimistic that it will improve learning outcomes.
The fully furnished KG block includes two classrooms for KG 1 and KG 2, a TV room, washrooms, and an office, all equipped with tables, chairs, and learning materials.
Nana Owiredu Wadie emphasized the critical role of early childhood education in shaping future leaders.
“Quality facilities and educational resources significantly impact children’s learning and development,” he stated.
He also highlighted that this kindergarten block represents a significant step forward in providing quality education for local children.
Mr. Henry Larbi, Executive Director of KABAKA Foundation, noted that this intervention aligns with their commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
He remarked that providing educational infrastructure is essential for giving children a solid start in their educational journey.
The Headmistress of Asikasu Presby Basic School, Mrs. Clementina Ahenkwa Mensah, expressed her excitement about the project and the accompanying donations of learning materials such as bags and uniforms for KG pupils.
She believes this initiative will enhance access to quality early childhood education for seven communities in the area.
The community members praised Nana Owiredu Wadie for his intervention, believing it will have a long-term positive impact on their development and that of the country at large.
