On the night of December 31, 2024, Simon Opoku Afriyie, a reporter from OTEC FM, visited several churches in Kumasi to cover the Watch Night services. The services, which mark the end of the year and the beginning of a new one, were filled with prayers, reflections, and messages of hope. Among the churches visited were Victory Baptist Church at Tech, Kumasi Central Salvation Army Corps at Ashtown, and New Jerusalem Chapel at Sokoban Ampayoo.
At Victory Baptist Church in Tech, Reverend Dr. Charles Owusu Ampofo, the Head Pastor, shared an insightful message with the congregation. He emphasized the importance of attitudinal change, urging Ghanaians to adopt positive behaviors in the workplace. Reverend Dr. Ampofo called on individuals to be punctual, stating, “We should avoid lateness at work.” He also highlighted the need to respect authority, advising citizens to refrain from insulting political leaders based on their positions. “We should give necessary respect to our leaders,” he said. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of honesty in the workplace, noting that the collapse of many businesses is often attributed to dishonesty. “Many businesses are collapsing due to a lack of honesty at the workplace,” he added. Reverend Dr. Ampofo’s message resonated with many in the congregation as they prepared for a new year filled with opportunities for growth and improvement.

In Kumasi Central Salvation Army Corps at Ashtown, Major Asare Bediako Tawiah, the Head Pastor of the church, delivered an inspiring message for 2025. He declared that the coming year would be a year of taking possession of blessings, likening it to the biblical story of Joshua. “2025 is a year we are taking or possessing the land of possibilities, as the Lord told Joshua in the Bible,” Major Tawiah stated. He encouraged the congregation to claim God’s blessings for the year, reminding them that it was a time to embrace all the opportunities the Lord has in store for them.

Lastly, Bishop Dr. J.Y. Adu, the Founder and General Overseer of New Jerusalem Chapel at Sokoban Ampayoo, called for nationwide prayer for the country, particularly after the elections. Bishop Adu warned of potential challenges facing Ghana in the coming year, including accidents, fires, and heavy rainfall, which could cause harm to lives and property. “There is a calamity ahead for the country, and we need to pray for protection and guidance. We must prepare ourselves spiritually for the challenges ahead,” he urged.
