Asutifi South Agric Director Urges Farmers to Embrace All Year Farming
The District Agriculture Director for Asutifi South, Mr. Ebo Cann Mensah, has advised farmers in the district not to wait for the rainy season to plant food crops. Speaking at an event, Mr. Mensah emphasized the importance of irrigation, urging farmers to plant crops like rice and maize, especially in areas close to rivers.
He encouraged farmers to diversify into animal production, such as rearing sheep, goats, snails, and rabbits, to supplement their income. Mr. Mensah also advised farmers to invest in tools and materials that would enable them to farm during the dry season.
The Director further stressed the need for farmers to adopt sustainable practices, such as planting trees to prevent bushfires. He called for an open market system, where farmers can sell their produce directly to consumers without middlemen exploiting them.
Mr. Mensah acknowledged the role of middlemen but urged them not to exploit farmers. He encouraged farmers to sell their produce at fair prices and not be forced to sell through middlemen.
