President of the Africa Diplomatic Mission of the United Nations Peace Ambassadors Foundation Africa (UNPAF), Her Royal Highness Hajia Adiza Baba Issah, has called on Ghanaians and traditional leaders to prioritize peace as the nation prepares for the 2026 Homowo Festival.
She made the appeal during the UNPAF General Assembly Conference Meeting 2026, held on Friday, June 26, at the Korsah Conference Hall in Accra. The meeting was held under the theme: “The Role of Traditional Chiefs, Queenmothers, Youth and Law Enforcement for Sustainable Peace, Security, and Development During, Before, and After Homowo Festival 2026.”
Addressing the media, Her Royal Highness Hajia Adiza Baba Issah, described peace as the foundation of every prosperous society.
“Peace is an essential commodity in our daily lives. Without peace, there can be no meaningful development, security or progress.”
She explained that the conference was convened to ensure that the Homowo Festival is celebrated in an atmosphere of peace and unity.
“The purpose of this meeting is to ensure that the Homowo Festival is peaceful and that every activity before, during and after the festival is conducted in line with the peaceful spirit of our country.”
Her Royal Highness Hajia Adiza Baba Issah also stressed the importance of involving traditional leaders in peacebuilding efforts, urging chiefs and queenmothers to actively engage with the committee to share their perspectives.
“The engagement of our traditional leaders is crucial. Their input and collaboration with the committee will help strengthen peace and promote harmony in our communities.”
She further appealed to all Ghanaians to remain united and committed to peaceful coexistence.
“I call on all Ghanaians, both at home and in the diaspora, to continue living in peace and harmony. Peace is our collective responsibility, and together we can build a stronger and more united nation.”
She reaffirmed that sustainable peace requires the collective efforts of traditional authorities, youth, law enforcement agencies and every citizen to ensure a successful and peaceful Homowo Festival in 2026.
She also used the opportunity to urge the newly appointed board members of UNPAF to work diligently and champion the foundation’s peace agenda in their respective communities.
According to her, serving on the board is a call to humanity and selfless service rather than personal gain.
“This work is about humanity and serving people. Although it is voluntary, I encourage every board member to become an ambassador of peace and continue to preach peace in their various communities.”
She urged the newly appointed members to remain committed to promoting peace, unity and harmony, stressing that their dedication would contribute significantly to sustainable peace and national development.
