Media Coalition for Good Governance (MCGG) Commends Ibrahim Mahama on Damang Mines Handover

The Media Coalition for Good Governance (MCGG) extends its warm congratulations to Ibrahim Mahama, Founder and CEO of Engineers and Planners Ltd, for the successful assumption of operations at the Damang Mines following the official handover by the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

MCGG notes with optimism Mr. Mahama’s forward-looking commitments made during his acceptance address, including plans to construct an airport within six months, establish two hospitals, and develop multiple astroturf sports facilities across Damang and its surrounding communities. These proposed interventions, if executed, hold the potential to significantly transform the socio-economic landscape of the area.

The Coalition expresses its keen interest in these developments and affirms that it will actively monitor and follow up on the progress of the outlined projects to ensure accountability and delivery in the interest of the people.

MCGG further uses this opportunity to highlight a persistent challenge confronting national development the politicization of indigenous enterprise.

As a country, Ghana must confront the reality that excessive political interference continues to undermine the growth of local businesses and entrepreneurs.

In contrast, countries such as Nigeria, despite their own challenges, have succeeded in nurturing billionaires who dominate critical sectors, including banking, energy, telecommunications, and entertainment.

In Ghana, however, the cycle of political transitions has too often been accompanied by the systematic weakening or collapse of businesses perceived to be aligned with opposing political interests. This trend discourages innovation, limits wealth creation, and ultimately deprives citizens of employment opportunities. National development must be placed above partisan considerations.

MCGG emphasizes that entrepreneurs who invest in the economy and create jobs for Ghanaians must be protected rather than targeted. The collapse of several promising enterprises due to political uncertainty and vindictiveness has contributed to economic hardship, while the broader population bears the consequences.

The Coalition calls for a national shift in mindset, one that prioritizes the growth and sustainability of Ghanaian businesses regardless of political affiliation.

Ghana needs more visionary entrepreneurs such as Paa Kwesi Nduom, Kwesi Twum, Osei Kwame Despite, Seidu Agongo, Kwaku Oteng, Kessben Group, Justmoh Construction Ltd, Kofi Job, Tobinco Group, Togbe Afede XIV, and J. A. Biney, individuals and organizations whose contributions have created jobs and driven economic growth.

MCGG also notes that public perception of successful entrepreneurs must be guided by facts rather than misinformation.

The Coalition stresses that narratives built on defamation and political bias only serve to discourage ambition and weaken national progress.

In conclusion, MCGG reiterates its support for initiatives that promote local enterprise, job creation, and sustainable development. The Coalition urges all stakeholders, government, political actors, civil society, and the private sector, to work collaboratively in fostering an environment where Ghanaian businesses can thrive without fear of political interference.
