Equality and Inclusiveness: NPP commissions an Ultramodern Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities ( PWDs)
New Patriotic Party(NPP) has Commissioned a modern secretariat for Persons with disabilities(PWDs).
According to the party , Article 29 of the United Nations’ Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities states that all people with disabilities have the same right to take part in politics as other citizens. The Convention also asks governments to ensure that people with disabilities have the same chances to participate in politics as anyone else.
Addressing the gathering at the unveiling ceremony at the Party’s campaign office at Kokomlemle, Madam Rita Talata Asobayire, 2nd National vice Chairman and also Welfare committee chairperson of the party at the ceremony, said creating an inclusive environment and representative political party is also more democratic. If a political party is seen to uphold democratic principles and respect the constitution, this can be a great boost for the party’s public image, which can lead into more financial opportunities as well as well as developing public interests and votes ahead of the general elections.
She thus said, the Secretariat will play a key role for addressing, coordinating and attending to all matters related to Persons living with disabilities.
She however pledged to work closely with the Secretariat in all things including providing resources and other related support in order to realise the objective for its establishment.
She therefore thanked the party’s leadership and President Akufo-Addo for the support for the creation of PWDs Secretariat for NPP.
NPP PWDs Representative, Dr. Kwesi Kyei thanked the National Executives of the New Patriotic Party for ensuring PWDs has a Secretariat.
According to him,the steps taken by NPP with regards to the Secretariat will help increase their representation within the political party structures and processes.
