Two junior wheelchair tennis players from Ghana, Emmanuel Amobire and Henry Adjapong, accompanied by their coach Philip Plange, departed from Kotoka International Airport in Accra today, September 19, 2024.

They are set to participate in Ghana’s inaugural ITF International Wheelchair Tennis Juniors Tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The team will first join the ITF Johan Cruyff Africa Wheelchair Tennis Training Camp from September 20 to 22, where they will join junior players from approximately ten other African nations.

This tournament aims to enhance their skills and prepare them for competitive play.

Following the training camp, Amobire and Adjapong, both aged 15, will compete in the Ithembelihle ITF Junior International Tournament scheduled for September 23 to 25.

Their participation marks a historic milestone as they become the first Ghanaian wheelchair tennis players to compete in an ITF international tournament.

National Coordinator for GTF Wheelchair Tennis, Henry Larbi, expressed pride in the team’s achievements and gratitude for the support received from the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Department, the Ghana Tennis Federation Board, and the GTF Wheelchair Tennis Committee.

The young athletes are eager to make strides in their debut tournament and represent Ghana with pride.
