Bernard Monarh commends Catholic Archdiocese for Environmental Prayer Walk Against Galamsey

Presidential Candidate for the People’s National Congress (PNC), Bernard Monarh, has praised the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra and the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious Ghana for their initiative in organizing an Environmental Prayer Walk aimed at addressing the urgent issue of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

The prayer walk, held on October 11, 2024, sought to raise awareness about the devastating impacts of galamsey on Ghana’s environment and to petition President Akufo-Addo for stricter policies to combat this menace.

Mr Monarh participated in the walk, emphasizing its significance in demanding accountability from government officials regarding strategies to tackle illegal mining.

He commended the Catholic Church for its leadership in this initiative, calling it a crucial first step toward advocating for meaningful change.

According to him, this walk is essential as it seeks to demand answers from the government on how they plan to address this pressing issue,” Monarh stated.

Mr Monarh urged all Ghanaians to unite in this fight against galamsey, highlighting that collective action is necessary to hold public officials accountable for their decisions and actions that affect the environment and public health.
