In a major stride toward financial inclusion and digital innovation, Ghanaian tech company MOBOT INNOVATION ENTERPRISE has unveiled MOBOT AI, a conversational financial assistant designed to simplify payments and everyday financial transactions — all through WhatsApp.

The brainchild of Thomas Duodu Kofi, a developer and AI researcher, MOBOT AI aims to make digital finance more human, intuitive, and locally relevant. By combining artificial intelligence with natural language understanding, the system enables users to send and receive money, pay bills, buy airtime, and access financial information by simply chatting — no apps, no forms, and no barriers.

“MOBOT AI was built with one mission — to make financial services human, simple, and accessible to everyone,” said Thomas Duodu Kofi, Lead Developer and AI Researcher at MOBOT.

“We’re bringing technology closer to the people — not just as a chatbot, but as a real financial companion for everyday life.”

What sets MOBOT AI apart from typical digital assistants is its ability to communicate in Twi, Ga, and Ewe — an innovation rooted in localized AI training.

MOBOT’s natural language model was trained on Ghana-specific data, allowing it to understand not just language, but also cultural nuances, tone, and intent.

This makes MOBOT AI one of the few conversational fintech systems in Africa built to “think” like its users. A merchant in Kasoa, for instance, can ask for balance updates in Twi, while a student in Ho can pay DStv bills using Ewe voice commands — all securely within WhatsApp.

Unlike digital banks, MOBOT AI doesn’t hold or store funds. Instead, it acts as a secure fintech layer that integrates with trusted local providers including Hubtel, ExpressPay, Paystack, MTN Mobile Money, Vodafone Cash, and AirtelTigo Money.

This model ensures regulatory compliance under the Bank of Ghana’s Payment Service Provider (PSP) framework while maintaining transparency and user protection. Every transaction happens through existing, regulated payment systems — but with the convenience of a chat.

MOBOT’s vision extends beyond individual users. The company is positioning its AI as a bridge between financial institutions, SMEs, and customers.

By anchoring itself in WhatsApp — the continent’s most popular messaging platform — MOBOT AI reduces the digital barrier for millions of users who are new to fintech.
