GPRTU AMASAMAN BRANCH GOES AFTER DRIVERS WITH UNAPPROVED FARES
Ghana Private Road Transport Union(GPRTU) Amasaman Branch in the Ga West Municipality has a crackdown on drivers who charge unapproved transportation fares.
The exercise that took place at Pokuase, Amasaman, Medea, and Samsam is to sanitize the transportation ecosystem in the country.

Speaking to reporters, chairman of GPRTU Amasaman Branch,Nii Asrifi admonished that overcharging transport fares is against the code of conduct of the union and needs to obey any objectives from their mother bodies.
According to him, it passengers who, through their monies, drivers, and their car owners, are able to feed their families as well as maintain their vehicles.
He therefore appeals to passengers to always demand for the right things to be done ,especially when boarding public transport and should not fall victim all in the name of no car syndrome.
ASP Kwasi Poku of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) at Amasaman alluded that the joint exercise by the Police service and GPRTU will help bring public trust in the transport system.
According to him, what some of the drivers are doing contradict with regulatory 141 of the MTTD law which forbid drivers to charge unapproved transportation fares from passengers.
He added that today’s exercise will serve as caution to all drivers, but subsequent ones they will prosecute the culprits, and all 15 car have been caught in the act of overcharging.
