The Niikweitsuru Community Durbar Grounds at Adjen-Kotoku came alive on Sunday, 23rd August 2026, as a high-powered delegation from the UN Peace Ambassadors Foundation Africa (UNPAF AFRICA) joined chiefs and people of the area to celebrate the grand finale of this year’s Homowo Festival.
The delegation was led by its Executive Chairman, *HRM Amb. Nana Sultan Adamu Mohammed*, and included *HRM Dr. Pro-Umar Abubakar Tanko*, Africa Commissioner of Islamic Chieftaincy Affairs; *HRH Abdul Rahim Mubarak*, Africa Director of NGOs; *HRH Muhammed Sanusi Adamu*, Africa Director of Operations; *HRH Issah Suleman*, National Board Member; *Hajia Barikisu Abdellah*, Africa Women Commissioner; and *Chief Inspector Vicential Fortune Torsutse*, National President of Diplomatic Mission.
They were warmly received by *Her Royal Highness Naa Kotoku Ojenma I, Manye of Niikoitsuruman*, *Nii Kwei Tsuru Mantse We*, Chiefs, Elders and residents of Adjen-Kotoku, a division of Asere in Accra.
The colourful durbar was marked by rich display of Ga culture, traditional drumming and dancing, and the sharing of the traditional festive meal, *Kpokpei and Palm Nut Soup*.
Delivering a keynote message on the theme *“PEACE BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER HOMOWO: OUR SHARED RESPONSIBILITY FOR A UNITED AND PROSPEROUS GHANA,”* HRM Dr. Tanko said peace must remain central to the celebration.
“Homowo is more than a festival. It is a powerful expression of our history, our resilience and our gratitude. But celebration without peace loses its meaning. We must have peace before Homowo, peace during Homowo, and peace after Homowo – in our homes, in our communities, in Ghana and in Africa,” he said.
Responding, Naa Kotoku Ojenma I expressed profound gratitude to UNPAF AFRICA for gracing the occasion, stating that their presence added great dignity to this year’s celebration.
The festival ended with a commitment for future collaboration between the Adjen-Kotoku Traditional Authority and UNPAF AFRICA in the areas of peace-building and youth empowerment.
