Parliamentary Committee awaits copy of SDA Church’s petition for election date amendment

The Parliamentary Constitutional and Legal Committee has reported that it has not yet received a copy of the petition from the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

This petition suggests an amendment to the December 7, 2024, date for the upcoming general elections in Ghana.

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church, in their petition addressed to the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General, highlights a conflict between the proposed election date and the Sabbath, a holy day dedicated to the worship of God.

The church is recommending a change to either the first (1st) or second (2nd) Tuesday of November as the new date for Ghana’s general elections.

According to the church, this adjustment needs to be legally codified to ensure that Adventists have the freedom to worship without any conflict with the electoral process.

The parliamentary committee is awaiting a copy of this petition before proceeding to make decisions regarding the proposed amendment.
