The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially petitioned Parliament regarding concerns over alleged discrepancies in the voter register for the upcoming December 2024 elections.
The petition also addresses the Electoral Commission’s refusal to permit an independent audit of the voter register.
During the demonstration on September 17, 2024, NDC General Secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey presented the party’s key demands to the leadership of Parliament, who received the petition on behalf of the Speaker.
Among the ten demands outlined are a bipartisan investigation into the conduct of the Electoral Commission (EC), a recommendation for an independent forensic audit of the voter register, immediate publication of findings from any forensic audit conducted, and a re-exhibition of the voter register following the forensic audit.
Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin assured the NDC that Parliament would look into their concerns regarding the voter register.
He emphasized the importance of addressing genuine issues to enrich Ghana’s democracy and encouraged all relevant stakeholders to participate in discussions.
The party has expressed frustration over what they perceive as flaws in the voter registration process and is determined to advocate for transparency and accountability from the EC.
