Given the severity of the injuries, it’s possible that the death toll will rise- NASACA on Buduburam blast

The National Safety Campaign (NASACA) has expressed grave concerns regarding the recent devastating blast at Buduburam (Liberia Camp), attributing the calamity to clear negligence.

In a statement signed by NASACA President Daniel Asuku, the organization emphasized that the tragic loss of life could have been entirely avoided had adequate safety measures been implemented.

“Three lives were tragically lost, and over thirty-six people sustained injuries in a devastating blast at Buduburam. This calamity was the result of clear negligence, and the loss could have been minimized or entirely avoided had adequate safety measures been in place,” the statement read.

Mr Asuku warned that the full consequences of the disaster may not yet be realized.

“Given the severity of the injuries, it’s possible that the death toll will rise, compounding the already heartbreaking situation,” he noted.

He pointed out that the area is known for quarrying activities, which are inherently dangerous, yet both operators and local residents have neglected the associated hazards.

“This tragedy in Buduburam highlights a broader issue in Ghana: the frequent disregard for safety protocols in industrial activities and construction. Communities are exposed to unnecessary risks, as seen in various other tragic incidents across the country,” he stressed.

Mr Asuku urged the public to remain vigilant about the risks posed by contractors and businesses prioritizing profit over safety.

“The neglect of safety standards can no longer be tolerated. Without prioritizing safety, how can we expect progress, let alone prosperity?” he questioned.
