The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Amasaman Constituency organized a walk known as “The Umbrella Walk” to showcase the achievements and promote the policies of their parliamentary candidate, Sedem Afenyo.
The event took place within three zonal wards—Kwashikuman, Onyansana, and Okushibiadie—where hundreds of electorates joined the march to support Afenyo in garnering votes for the upcoming elections.
Addressing the media after the march, Sedem Afenyo stated, “This march is just a warmup” for the December 7 elections.
He noted that the large turnout indicates that the people are ready to vote for change.
“This crowd should tell you that Ghanaians are tired of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). They are in search of change and a reset,” he added.
Mr. Afenyo expressed confidence that the hundreds of supporters who joined the walk reflect what will happen in the elections, predicting an unprecedented outcome that would leave the NPP astonished.
He promised various infrastructural projects such as roads and schools, emphasizing his commitment to completing initiatives started under the Mahama administration that were left unfinished by the current government.
“This should tell you that the NPP has not done anything beneficial for the people of Amasaman. They should tell us one project that they have done within the Amasaman Constituency,” he challenged.
He also addressed concerns regarding claims that John Dramani Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, plans to cancel the Free SHS policy.
“It is never true. He says he is going to cancel the shift system of the policy. He is coming to cancel the shift system, but the Free SHS has come to stay,” he noted.
Mr. Afenyo reiterated Mr. Mahama’s commitment to building schools to accommodate students, which would facilitate the cancellation of the shift system in education.
He called on residents of Amasaman to prepare for the general election, urging them to vote for both John Dramani Mahama and himself to improve infrastructural development in their constituency.
The organizer of the NDC Umbrella Walk, Hon. Abubakar Mohammed, emphasized its significance, stating it serves as a reminder that the NDC is active and poised to win in Amasaman.
“People are saying that the NDC is asleep, but this walk is to tell you that we are awake and we are not asleep,” he asserted.
He expressed confidence that the NDC will reclaim the Amasaman seat and that Hon. Sedem Afenyo will serve as Member of Parliament for the constituency.
He also thanked all party executives, constituency chairman, and residents for their participation in the walk.
