GHANA WATER COMPANY STAFF SUSPEND STRIKE ACTION IN THE ASHANTI REGION

The Workers Union of Ghana Water Limited in the Ashanti Region in a press conference today has suspended the ongoing strike action, effective today following an appeal by the Directors of the company and some major stakeholders and in solidarity with the general public who have had to bear brunt of our actions.

In an interview with the media, the Vice-Chairman of Senior staff Association under the Public utility Workers Union, Mr Emmanuel Koti Kodia express the significant challenges faced by their valued customers during the three-day shutdown of operations and recognizes the importance of resuming water supply to prevent further inconvenience and hardship.

“We have just concluded an emergency meeting with a delegation from the Board and Management of the Company this morning.”

According to him, their Directors has assured them their commitment to addressing the unlawful demolition of the residence of the Chief Managers in the Ashanti Region and the increasing threat to their properties.

Mr Koti Kodia added that, while they have temporarily suspended the industrial action,they have also emphasize that the Union shall closely monitor the progress of the promises made and will not hesitate to resume industrial action should the need arise.

“At this moment, we wish to apologize to the cherished customers for the inconveniences that the interruption in service has caused them. It was a necessary evil that we hoped would have been avoided. “

They has then assure everyone that their actions were informed by our commitment to protecting the assets of GWL and by extension the State to which we are stewards and trustees for the people of Asanteman and Ghana as a whole. Indeed, we are committed to working towards finding a lasting resolution to this matter, he concluded.
