In an apparent resurgence of politically motivated violence in the Asutifi South Constituency of the Ahafo Region, there have been reported attacks against members of the New Patriotic Party-NPP.
Reports indicate that, over the weekend, thugs allegedly led by Naaba Abdulai, the fugitive brother of the sitting MP for the area, Alhaji Collins Dauda, have brutalized supporters of the outgoing government in the hometown of the NDC member of Parliament.
The alleged perpetrators stormed a section of Mehame, a small town in the Asutifi South Constituency, and meted out heavy beatings to known NPP members in broad daylight. Eyewitness accounts suggest that, the ordeal suffered by the defenceless NPP supporters was merciless, brute and inhumane.
Five (5) persons sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of the physical assaults. They are Akwasi Badu (alias Akokora Badu), Kwame Antwi and Ali Issah, as well as two women – Nyamekye Mercy and Owusuaa Adwoa. The latter is reportedly pregnant.
From pictures making rounds across the various social media platforms, the victims of this latest attack can be seen with cuts on their backs, swollen faces, and cane marks all over their bodies.
According to the reports, Naaba and his ‘boys’ had earlier on issued threats against certain NPP members to flee the town or risk being beaten to pulp. After these 5 persons defied his ‘orders’, and went on about their normal daily activities, the infamous Naaba stormed their homes with menacing thugs to mete out beatings to them.
As of filing this report, the case has been reported to the Police. The victims have been issued police medical forms, and have since been given some medical care at the Goaso Government Hospital.
Naaba Abdulai is the brother of Alhaji Collins Dauda, who is wanted for attacking and maiming members of the NPP’s campaign team in December 2016.
It remains to be seen if Alhaji Collins Dauda will impress upon his brother to stop engaging in these untoward acts, having returned from a self-imposed exile.
