$230m paid to the contractor of the BoG headquarters, 31.8m arrears still due- Asiama

Governor of the Bank of Ghana has revealed that $230 million has been paid to the contractor of the new Bank of Ghana project, located at Ridge in Accra.

According to him, this amount was paid as recently as February this year.

Addressing Parliament on the cost of project on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, disclosed that the project still has an outstanding balance of $31.8 million to be paid to the contractor.

“As of February this year, a total of approximately $230 million has been paid towards the project, with an outstanding balance of $31 million still due to the contractor,” he stated.

Dr. Asiama also disclosed that a sum of $48.3 million has been paid in taxes and levies related to the project’s construction.

He also explained that the project goes beyond just the core building as separate contracts were awarded for other infrastructure, including ICT systems and network infrastructure which were awarded at a cost of $8.6 million.

Dr. Asiama also explained further that electronic systems were also awarded at a cost of $15.8 million, and furnishing and furniture also awarded at $11.1 million.

“Mr. Speaker, beyond the core building, separate contracts were awarded for other infrastructure. This include ICT systems and network infrastructure, which was awarded at a cost of $8.6 million, integrated electronic systems which was also awarded at a cost of $15.8 million and furniture and furnishings that was also awarded at $11.1 million.”

He seized the opportunity to emphasize on the importance of the project, stressing that “this new headquarters will serve as the new command centre for the bank’s operations, fostering innovation, collaboration, and excellence in its service to the nation.”

“It will also reinforce the bank’s capacity for advance critical financial sector reforms, enhance regulatory frameworks, and improve the investment climate for both domestic and international stakeholders,” he added.

Dr. Asiama also commended the Bank of Ghana for its commitment to ensuring proficiency in its operations.
