The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) will host the Union Catholique Africaine de la Presse (UCAP) triennial Congress in August 2025 to discuss the importance of balancing Artificial Intelligence and human values.
The event brings together 150 delegates from 30 countries to discuss the theme “Balancing Technological Progress and the Preservation of Human Values in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
According to a press statement signed by the member of the Organizing Committee, Peter Martey Agbeko, indicated that the Congress aims to foster dialogue, networking, and capacity-building among Catholic communicators, journalists, academic researchers, tech leaders, and government representatives.
Key areas of focus include corporate social responsibility in AI deployment, eco-friendly start-ups, digital wellbeing, and media literacy.
He added that the eight-day event, delegates will engage in plenary sessions, workshops, and collaborative strategy meetings.
“The Congress also plans to train 150 media practitioners in the ethical and human-centered use of AI.”
He stressed on the reason for the choice of location, which is Accra, emphasizing that the host city embodies a blend of tradition and innovation, making it an apt reflection of the Congress theme.
“Delegates will have opportunities to experience Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, including visits to Kakum National Park, Cape Coast Castle, and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum,” he stated.
The Organising Committee, chaired by Mrs. Victoria Lugey and Sir Ben Assorow, comprises local and continental experts.
The Congress seeks to leave a lasting ethical legacy in African media, promoting a future where AI serves humanity.
