The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s call for a forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the December 2024 elections.
NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua described the demand for an independent forensic audit as “hypocritical and mischievous,” asserting that it is a calculated attempt to stir tension in the country.
Addressing a press conference on September 19, Mr. Kodua argued that the call for an audit is unnecessary and reflects the NDC’s awareness of their imminent defeat at the polls.
He emphasized that the NDC should not dictate to the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding its operations.
“It is hypocritical for the NDC to be ordering the Electoral Commission to conduct an independent forensic audit of the provisional register,” he stated.
He further challenged the NDC to present any alleged errors in the electoral register to the EC for verification if they believe such errors exist.
Mr. Kodua says the NPP maintains that the EC has the constitutional authority to manage the electoral process independently, and any attempts by the NDC to involve a third party in this process undermine that independence.
He stated emphatically that if the EC decides to grant the request of the NDC, the NPP will also embark on a nationwide demonstration against the EC.
