Prez Akufo-Addo signs into law the Affirmative Action Bill

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has signed into law the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill 2024, following its passage by Parliament in July.

This landmark legislation aims to address gender imbalances across various sectors in Ghana and combat long-standing discrimination against vulnerable populations while promoting equity.

According to Darkoa Newman, the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, the Bill seeks to create equal opportunities for women in both public and private sectors.

It challenges entrenched patriarchal norms and socio-cultural systems that have historically marginalized women.

In a recent post on X, Minister Newman emphasized that the Bill represents a significant step forward in the fight for gender equality in Ghana.

The new law is expected to drive progress in several key areas, including political representation, economic participation, and social inclusion for women.

By fostering an environment where women can thrive and contribute fully to society, the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill aims to create a more equitable and just Ghana for all citizens.
