Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused President John Mahama of low representation of women in his administration, particularly in his cabinet.
Addressing Parliament after President Mahama’s SONA on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Mr. Afenyo-Markin reminded Ghanaians of President John Mahama’s agenda of women inclusivity, mentioning names of some women who he believes would have been key in his administration.
”The president has announced to us a cabinet; a cabinet of 19 with only 2 women. But the daughter of the NDC, Zanetor Rawlings is missing. Hajia Larry is missing. Hellen Ntorso is missing,” he criticized.
”Where are the women in this government?”
He stressed that even though the Vice President, Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang, is part of the administration, Ghanaians have seen only ten percentage of women in his cabinet.
”The Vice President is part of the government and we are seeing only two women in the cabinet. In percentage terms, we have only ten per cent of women in the cabinet,” he added.
