Attorney-General and Minster of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has admitted that he called for the arrest of Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Board Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).
This follows his arrest on Sunday, March 2, 2025, by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), in connection with an investigation into some financial transactions during this period as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIF).
However, he was released in the evening.
In an interview with GhanaWeb TV, Dr. Ayine disclosed that Prof. Christoper Ameyaw-Akumfi was arrested to answer questions pertaining to some payments he made and those involved in those transactions.
According to the Attorney-General, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi admitted to the payment of a sum of two million dollars to get some works done, but, those works were not done.
“Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was arrested and questioned, and he admit that the two million dollars was paid for no work done.”
“We are still investigating the circumstances of the payment and those who were involved,” he added.
However, lawyers for Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi defended by stating that, “we the lawyers absolutely are confident that Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi is innocent of whatever they raised against him.”
