
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagun has condemned the derogatory comments made against the Member of Parliament for Korle-Klottey Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, during parliamentary proceedings on February 4, 2025.
On February 4, 2025, there was an outburst from a male voice, calling Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings “daughter of a murderer.”
This happened while the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the House and calling for calm until a male voice was heard shouting, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”
Addressing the House on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Speaker Alban Bagbin rendered an official apology to the Member of Parliament, describing such comments as “unwarranted, unjustified and deeply offensive.”
“It is regrettable that an Hon. Member was subjected to an unwarranted, unjustified and deeply offensive reckless remark. I apologize for repeating it. Such conduct is dishonorable, and I strongly condemn it as a behavior unbefitting of a sitting MP,” he said.
He used the opportunity to apologize to the wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings, H. E. Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, Hon. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, the people of Anglo, and the family.
Speaker, in his speech, launched an official investigation to reveal the identity of the Member of Parliament, who uttered such statements against Dr. Zanetor Rawlings.
He gave one-week ultimatum, encouraging the MP to come forward and unmake his statement, stressing stricter penalties if he fails to comply.
