In a strategic move to unify and strengthen the party ahead of future elections, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has inaugurated a 25-Member Council of Elders to address longstanding issues within the party.
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has faced internal disputes, notably in December 2023 when key officials resigned, leading to an attempted formation of an interim council.
However, the Accra High Court affirmed Nana Akosua Sarpong-Kumankumah as the legitimate chairperson, emphasizing the central committee’s sole authority.
The party’s 2024 flagbearer, Nana Akosua Sarpong-Kumankumah, expressed optimism that this council will address longstanding issues and bolster the CPP’s prospects of winning power.
According to her, the party is very poised to address any issue that will arise, emphasizing the importance of the party’s constitution in addressing matters.
“The party is now poised; every issue that we will have, we will use our constitution and the wisdom of our Elders to move forward,” she said.
She emphasized that leveraging the experience and wisdom of the elders is pivotal for the party’s rejuvenation and effective governance.
The flagbearer expressed her excitement over the outcome of the 2024 general elections, citing that the CPP became the third party and having gathered a 100 percent of its members.
She seized the opportunity to appeal to Ghanaians and supporters to join in the fight for unity in the party as well as become active members of the party to ensure victories.
