Chief of Kotoku Niikweitsuru Lifts Noise Ban, Commends Residents for Observance
The Chief of Kotoku Niikweitsuru and united nations ambassador for peace Greater Accra has officially announced the lifting of the ban on noise-making in the area.
The ban, which began on 4th May and ended 4th June, was observed to allow priests and priestesses to make prayers and sacrifices to the gods for bumper harvests, peace, and prosperity for the town and the nation.
Speaking after the ban was lifted, the Chief explained that the period of silence is necessary to create a calm environment for spiritual rites. “During this time, they need silence to pray well to the gods for food, meat, peace, and everything good for the country and the ga land,” .
He commended pastors, Muslims, and all residents for adhering strictly to the directive. According to him, officials who monitored compliance during the period did not find anyone violating the ban. “Even when those in charge went out, they were not able to find anybody. Everybody was able to adhere, so I thank everybody,” he added.
The Chief also consoled residents whose properties were destroyed by recent floods. He urged the people to desist from activities that worsen flooding, such as building on waterlogged areas and dumping refuse in gutters. While noting that the effects may not be immediate, he warned that such actions will have serious consequences in the long run.
He further cautioned individuals involved in land sales to stop selling waterlogged or unsuitable lands without the notice of chiefs. “Some people sell lands just to get money, even lands that are not good or waterlogged. They must desist from that,” he warned.
