Law Enforcement Urged To Arrest, Prosecute Sanitation Offenders Over Indiscriminate Refuse Disposal
The Municipal Environmental Health Director of Kwahu West, Mr. Diamond Kwame Amedonu, has called on law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute persons who flout sanitation regulations through indiscriminate disposal of refuse.
Speaking after a clean-up exercise in the municipality, Mr. Amedonu emphasized that the Assembly will no longer spare offenders, stressing that prosecution in court would serve as a deterrent and promote responsible sanitation practices.
He said the exercise, which involved desilting choked gutters and sweeping within electoral areas, was aimed at improving environmental cleanliness, protecting public health and enhancing the municipality’s capacity to address sanitation challenges.
In a related development, the Director of KLEMAV Sanitation Company in charge of the Kwahu West Municipality, Mr. Eric Klenam, disclosed that the company has intensified efforts to improve waste management and environmental cleanliness.
According to him, KLEMAV has procured a fleet of sanitation equipment and logistics, including tricycles, to strengthen refuse collection and sanitation monitoring activities.
Mr. Klenam described the logistics as a major boost that will effectively improve sanitation service delivery and contribute to building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Kwahu West Municipality.
He reiterated KLEMAV’s commitment to promoting environmental sanitation and safeguarding public health through innovative interventions.
He, however, expressed concern about the failure of some traders and residents to clean their frontages after their daily activities, describing it as unacceptable for traders to leave heaps of rubbish behind.
Mr. Amedonu emphasized that keeping one’s frontage clean is not only a civic responsibility but also a legal requirement.
He added that KLEMAV intends to extend its sanitation education campaigns to schools to sustain public education on proper environmental practices.
