The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, has denied allegations that the Committee has been accepting bribes from individuals scheduled to appear before it.
These claims have surfaced amid ongoing concerns about bribery, corruption, and favoritism associated with the Committee, particularly following remarks made by investigative journalist Manasseh Awuni Azure in his latest book.
Dr. Avedzi addressed these allegations in Parliament, asserting that they are unfounded.
He emphasized that the integrity of the Committee is paramount and that such claims cannot be substantiated.
The controversy gained traction after MP Samuel George raised questions about the payment practices of officials appearing before the Committee, suggesting that some may have paid committee members to expedite their cases and ensure leniency.
