Former Deputy Minister of Defense, Major (Retired) Derick Oduro, has called on the Ghana Police Service to prosecute Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convener of the Democracy Hub protest.
Barker-Vormawor was arrested on September 23, 2024, for his alleged involvement in unlawful activities during the group’s demonstration held from September 21 to 22.
The police stated that Barker-Vormawor’s arrest was linked to various unlawful acts committed at the 37 Intersection in Accra, including an incident where he allegedly took the keys of a police armored vehicle.
In total, 44 protesters were detained during the demonstrations.
Oduro emphasized that prosecuting those involved in the protest would serve as a deterrent to others and reinforce respect for the laws of the country.
He expressed his views during an interview with Don Kwabena Prah Jnr on the Hot Morning Drive.
The protests aimed to draw attention to pressing national issues, including illegal mining and its detrimental effects on the environment.
The police had previously issued a statement indicating that their actions were necessary to maintain public order and safety during the protests.
