As the Christmas holidays approach, Mr. Erasmus Baah, the Bekwai District Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), is urging all drivers to prioritize safety on the roads. In a recent statement, Mr. Baah emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety regulations, particularly during the busy festive season.
He strongly advised drivers to refrain from consuming alcohol or drugs before driving. “During this festive period, it is crucial that all drivers make responsible choices. Alcohol and drugs impair your ability to drive safely and can lead to serious accidents,” he stated. “Let us all ensure that we keep our roads safe for everyone by avoiding impaired driving.”
Mr. Mr Erasmus Baah also called on drivers to ensure that their vehicles are in proper condition before setting out on long trips. “Before hitting the road, make sure your vehicle is well-maintained. Check tire pressure, fluid levels, and brakes to avoid unexpected breakdowns or accidents,” he recommended.
The DVLA Officer also advised motorists to follow all traffic regulations, such as adhering to speed limits, wearing seat belts, and avoiding reckless driving. “The roads will be busier than usual, and it’s important that we all follow the rules and be mindful of other road users. Speeding, overtaking recklessly, or not following traffic signs could lead to preventable accidents,” he added.
Mr. Baah also reminded parents and guardians to avoid allowing children under 18 years old to drive. “It is illegal for minors to drive, and parents must ensure they do not let their underage children get behind the wheel,” he cautioned. He further advised that if parents wish their 18-year-old children to drive, they must ensure they have a valid driver’s license.
