As Oppong Memorial Senior High School (OMESS) in Kokofu prepares to mark its 50th anniversary on October 5, 2025, the school’s headmaster, staff, and students have made a passionate appeal for support to address pressing infrastructural challenges.
In an interview with the media, the Headmaster, Mr. Richard Ahenkora, highlighted the school’s achievements in academics and extracurricular activities, including debates. However, he lamented the numerous challenges hindering effective teaching and learning.

One of the major challenges facing the school is the lack of a completed fence wall, which has left students exposed to frequent attacks by intruders. Mr. Ahenkora revealed that town boys often invade the school premises at night, robbing students of their money, mobile phones, and other valuables. He stressed that completing the fence wall is critical to ensuring the safety of students and staff.
He said Beyond security concerns, OMESS faces severe infrastructure deficits, making teaching and learning difficult. Key among them are:
Inadequate Lavatory for Boys: The current facilities are insufficient, creating sanitation challenges.
Lack of Mechanized Water for Girls’ Dormitory: The newly built girls’ dormitory lacks a reliable water supply, making life uncomfortable for female students.
Absence of a Library: While students have taken the initiative to construct a library, work on the project has stalled due to lack of funds.
Need for a Modern Science Laboratory: The school lacks an ultramodern science lab, which is crucial for practical science education.
He added that, The increasing student population has led to a shortage of desks and chairs, affecting the learning environment.
This is what Mr. Richard Ahenkora Headmaster of Oppong Memorial Senior High School at Kokofu had to say.
Some students also expressed their concerns, calling on the government, NGOs, and philanthropic individuals to intervene and help address the school’s challenges. They emphasized that improving the learning environment would significantly enhance academic performance and student welfare.
