NPP REJECTS EC’s RERUN DECISION IN ABLEKUMA NORTH, CALLS FOR DECLARATION OF AFRIYIE AS WINNER
The controversy surrounding the Ablekuma North Constituency electoral outcome has taken a new twist, as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has openly rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun elections in 19 polling stations. The party insists that its candidate, Akua Owusu Afriyieh, won the contest and must be declared the legitimate winner.
The EC had earlier announced a rerun in selected polling stations within the constituency due to unresolved issues with results collation. However, the NPP argues that this move is baseless and politically motivated.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s Ablekuma North office, NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, accused the EC of acting in bad faith. “Why is the Electoral Commission refusing to collate results from the remaining three polling stations and declare our candidate as winner?” he queried.
Mr. Kodua presented copies of pink sheets and certified results from polling stations as evidence that Akua Owusu Afriyieh secured a clear victory with a wide margin. “We have done our part. We have the results. We have the evidence. The EC should just do the collation and announce the winner,” he stressed.
He further described the EC’s conduct as “incompetent and unfair,” accusing the body of attempting to favour the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the party’s National Executive Committee met and unanimously resolved that the NPP will not participate in the proposed rerun. “Our candidate has won, and we will not legitimize a flawed process,” he declared.
The NPP has therefore called on the Electoral Commission to act swiftly and transparently by completing the collation process and declaring Akua Owusu Afriyieh as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North.
