Party to protest discontinued cases and call for judicial reforms The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans for a nationwide demonstration on Thursday, August 6, 2026, to “defend democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, said the protest will be held in collaboration with other political parties, civil society organisations, professional bodies, student movements, youth groups, and “all well-meaning Ghanaians.”“We shall embark on a massive demonstration to defend our democracy,” Nana Boakye declared.
“The demonstration will start here in Accra, and we’ll be going to other regions as well.”Demand For Accountability On Discontinued Cases The NPP said it is demanding accountability on cases involving persons affiliated with the governing party that have been “discontinued, withdrawn, or otherwise terminated since January 2025.”According to the party, the trend undermines public trust in the justice system and threatens the principle of equality before the law. The party also called on the Judicial Council and the leadership of the judiciary to “take urgent steps to restore public confidence in the administration of justice.”Nana Boakye made a direct appeal to the Chief Justice, urging fairness in the handling of all cases .“The Chief Justice must ensure there is fair justice in all the cases so that no one will feel bad. Justice must be equal,” he said.The NPP stated that the August 6 demonstration is not against any individual, but a citizen action to protect constitutional governance and strengthen institutions.
