Mahama promises free academic fees for first-year tertiary students

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has announced that first-year tertiary students will not be required to pay academic fees under his proposed “No Fee Stress Initiative.”

This promise was made during the launch of the NDC’s Youth Manifesto at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), aimed at alleviating the financial burden on parents who are financing their children’s education.

Mahama emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader government effort to ease the financial strain on families.

He stated that his administration would implement a no-fees program specifically for first-year students, allowing them to focus on their studies without the worry of tuition costs.

In addition to the fee waiver, Mahama proposed to redeploy the Student Loan Trust Fund, enabling continuing students to access loans directly for their university fees.

This move, according to Mahama, aims to provide students with peace of mind and financial support as they pursue their education.
