ANYAA POLYCLINIC PATIENTS STRANDED DURING POWER OUTAGES AMID GENERATOR DEFICIT
Operations at the Anyaa Polyclinic in the Ga Central Municipality of the Greater Accra Region halt during power outages because the facility lacks a generator.
The concerns were raised during a donation by the Men Movement Club (MMC), in support of the clinic. Items presented included: 2 gallon of methylated spirit, dust bins, nose masks, Dettol, liquid soaps, T-rolls, tissues, standing brooms, scrubbing brushes, bottled water, gloves, mosquito sprays, and nurses’ cups.
Angela Nutsuakor, Head of the Infection Prevention Unit, explained that the clinic lacks a standby generator and faces several other challenges that disrupt essential services.
She also highlighted the need for a dedicated maternity block. “We need a maternity block so that women can deliver comfortably, just like other advanced hospitals that have better facilities.” Nutsuakor noted that although the hospital is small, management is doing its best to provide quality care to patients.
Presenting the items, MMC Chairman Frank Anokye said the group chose Anyaa Polyclinic because of its proximity to members. “If a member is sick, this clinic is our first point of call before any transfer to a bigger hospital. So there is the need to support it,” he said.
Mr Anokye stressed that the club is non-profit and exists to help its members and the community. “We are not here for any personal benefit. We are to help ourselves and the society.”
He appealed to government to continue and complete the Agenda 111 hospital projects started by the previous NPP administration. “Health is very important. We don’t have enough hospitals in this country, and not everyone has money to go to big hospitals,” he said.
Anokye added that government alone cannot meet all health needs and called on individuals and organisations to support hospitals.
On his part, Stephen Opoku, Organiser of the Men Movement Club, also used the occasion to advise the public to engage in regular exercise. “It is very important to exercise your body at all times. That is why the club finds it necessary to organise health walks,” he said.
